March 2014 Captain of the Month
Congratulations to Natalee McDowell of Lexington for being nominated and randomly selected to be recognized as the March 2014 Captain of the Month! Natalee shares her love of tennis with the many new friends she has made over the few short years she has been playing USTA Adult League tennis. Jason Isaacs Memorial Doubles Tournament
The best young tennis players in the state honored one of their own at the 15th annual Jason Isaacs Memorial Junior Doubles Tennis Tournament Feb. 14-16. The tournament features a memorial scholarship in the name of Isaacs, a 1997 St. Xavier High School Alumnus and all-state tennis player who was killed in an automobile accident in 1999. NEW Purchase Area Local League Coordinator
Welcome Jamie Brazzell as the Local League Coordinator for all USTA Adult Leagues in the Purchase area. This includes, Adult 18 & Over, 40 & Over, 55 & Over, 65 & Over, as well as Mixed Doubles, Tri-Level, and Combo of the same age divisions. Jamie would love to hear from you if you are interested in participating in USTA League tennis, he can be reached by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration for the Adult 18, 40 and 55 & Over Leagues will begin the last week of February.
Joanne Wallen-PTR Kentucky Member of the Year
Joanne Wallen of Nicholasville, Kentucky, has been namd PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) Member of the Year for the state. This award is presented to a PTR member in the United States who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR. The PTR will present Joanne with this award during the 2014 PTR International Tennis Symposium in Hilton Head, SC. on February 20th. Earn $100 when you add 4 new self-rated players at the 2.0 - 3.0 level to your team. Any coach, team captain, Local League Coordinator or other tennis enthusiast will earn $100 when completing and submitting the claim form that can be found through this link. Send the completed claim form to the state office as directed.
Two College Scholarships Offered by the Southern Tennis Patrons Foundation
The Southern Tennis Patrons Foundation provides two $2,000 college scholarships to players from USTA Southern who apply for but do not receive USTA Serves college scholarships. Recipients must apply for the USTA Serves scholarships by Feb. ...21, 2014. Click here for more information and to apply.
Raise a Racquet Foundation for Kentucky Tennis
The Raise a Racquet Foundation is USTA Kentucky's Endowment Fund and is it's own seperate 501(c)3 entity, overseen by USTA Kentucky's Board of Directors. Through the funds raised, Raise a Racquet is able to carry out charitable good works to the Kentucky tennis community. In 2012, Raise a Racquet was able to award $5000 in college scholarships via the Jason Isaacs Scholarship Fund. Raise a Racquet also awarded $4000 for tournament travel, fees for clinics and camps for juniors who may otherwise would not have been able to participate.
