Tennis Block Parties Tennis Block Parties are the promotional platform used to kick off the outdoor tennis season in May and USTA’s May is Tennis Month initiative. Block Party events are aimed at highlighting the social and health benefits of tennis in a fun and exciting way for people of all ages and abilities. There are three main goals of these events: (1) Introduce new players to the sport of tennis and local program options; (2) Foster excitement in players about increasing their tennis play; and (3) Create awareness of USTA (and your CTA) and its programs.
With the assistance of the “Do it yourself kit,” Tennis Block Parties are easy to organize and are a great vehicle for promoting tennis and your CTA. Block Parties can be hosted in any venue of your choice (public parks, private clubs, you name it!) and should include two to three hours of tennis instruction, games and attractions for all attendees.
For information on the Tennis Block Party Kit, email Cheryl Penava, community development coordinator, at cpenava@kentuckytennis.com .
Recreational Coach Workshops Recreational Coach Workshops (RCWs) are ideal for ANYONE who teaches and coaches tennis, especially people who work with beginning and intermediate players, large groups, and team practices. The best attendees are typically CTA members who assist with tennis programs, PARENTS, High School Coaches, P.E. teachers, Teaching Pros, Parks and Rec. Staff, High School tennis players, College Tennis Players, Adult Players interested in working with Jr's, etc.

Welcome Back to Tennis The purpose of the Welcome Back to Tennis™ Party for players age 50+ is to encourage people to make a commitment to a healthier lifestyle by providing them with an exciting social tennis event and offering them opportunities to join a specifically designed continuing tennis program. The target audience is people, ages 50 to 70, who used to play tennis but stopped playing or who would like to get started. These events are not intended for individuals who are currently involved in a local tennis program or league.
The USTA has combined its resources and efforts to offer these events in the hope of improving lifestyle options for people as they age. Medical research abounds with encouraging results that support the benefit of continuing activity through sports—and, specifically, tennis—to enhance health, slow the aging process, and contribute to a positive outlook on life. Although life expectancies continue to increase with each new medical breakthrough, prescriptions to ensure that living more years will be enjoyable, challenging, and invigorating have not kept pace.
Here's a snapshop of a Welcome Back to Tennis™ Party: A three-hour event that includes socializing, music, food, and drinks, advice on new racquet technology, safety considerations, warm-up and cool-down activities, on-court tennis activities, prizes, and sign-up opportunities for continuing tennis programs. It's a day of FUN!
