SOUTHERN JUNIOR CLOSED INFO
The Joe Creason State Qualifier is used as Kentucky's automatic qualification into the Southern Junior Closed, considered USTA Southern's top event. You will see Kentucky's quota this year for each age division below. The Kentucky Junior Competition committee has voted and approved that the 4 main draw semifinalists and 2 consolation finalists in each age and gender division will earn automatic qualification into the Southern Junior Closed. The remaining bids will be determined by the Endorsement Committee based on current USTA Southern ranking, previous results, Creason finish, and sportsmanship.
For 2016, Kentucky will have the following quotas into the Southern Junior Closed
Boys 10s, Girls 10s-----8 (32 compass draw)
Boys 12s, Girls 12s-----9
Boys 14s, Girls 14s-----9
Boys 16s, Girls 16s-----9
Boys 18s, Girls 18s-----9
TOTAL BIDS AVAILABLE AT SOUTHERN CLOSED FOR 14-18 AGE DIVISIONS UP TO 196
Due to the overlapping between many of the Southern State Qualifiers and the National Selection Tournament during the same weekend, the USTA Southern Competition Committee has raised the overall number of bids into each draw of the 14, 16, and 18 divisions at the Southern Closed to 196, which is up from 160. Each state will keep the same quota and the increased number of bids will be handed out on a wildcard basis.
18U WINNERS GIVEN ENTRY INTO WILCARD TOURNAMENT
As an added incentive for our 18U players, the singles draw winners in the 18U Boys and Girls divisions will be given entry into a new Wildcard Event in connection with the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships in Lexington July 23-31. This wildcard tournament will give competitors a chance to earn entry into the qualifying draw for this professional challenger event. Winners of these divisions will be contacted by USTA with further details following completion of the Joe Creason State Qualifier.
If there is inclement weather, information will be posted on the Creason TennisLink Page, USTA Kentucky Facebook page and @USTAkentucky on Twitter. Please remember, it could be raining at one site and not the other, please report to your site at your scheduled time, unless otherwise notified by tournament staff.
